Landscape study using oil painting techniques. The student wanted to explore a painting using only palette knives.
There are several reasons why I might submit a piece of student art work into competition. The art work itself might be exceptionally creative or rendered particularly well. The art work might represent a momentous jump in technical merit for a student and they are extremely proud of what they have accomplished and I want to reward that. I might use it as a tool for encouragement and support. It can be one, some or all of these reasons as to why a work was chosen. You would be amazed at what it can do for a student’s sense of worth and pride when a teacher feels that what they have made is worthy of submission into a contest. And, if that is all that comes from it, then it was worth the effort.
