Caroline King - "Chicken House"

WINNER

High School: Lawrence Free State High School

This was taken on a trip to my family farm in Arkansas. I essentially went on a hunt for pictures and was inspired by the state of decay and dissaray it was in. The image was taken in a run down chicken house. This is a traditional, black and white photograph with only basic color correction used to enhance the image.

I liked the composition of this piece as well as the subject matter. I think that it was very cool to find a mortality record for chickens that could have been a few decades old and written by even my great grandfather. Besides having family history, the photo also ecompasses the juxtaposition of civilization (the old mortality record) and nature, as you see the vines growing over the light fixtures and reclaiming the over-run chicken house.
